Federal investigators arrived in Cape Coral to examine how a construction worker was killed by a falling piece of concrete. A spokesman for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration wouldn't discuss details of the case. A final OSHA report on the incident will take up to six months to get filed, said spokesman Les Grove.
Felton Kinchen, 62, of Fort Myers was working on a condominium project and died on the scene, police reported. Another crew member suffered minor injuries from the falling concrete. Kinchen and the other man were working under a second-story concrete slab at a 10-building condominium complex at 1113 Van Loon Commons Circle north of Hancock Parkway. The slab, which was about 12 feet in the air, gave way and broke apart under the weight of a crane bucket used to carry sand. Both men were employed by subcontractor Cement Industries of Fort Myers. Compass Construction is the general contractor.
