Truck Crashes Into Toll Booth, Driver Injured

October 4, 2005

Northbound traffic on Florida's Turnpike was backed up from Lantana to Delray Beach after a truck crashed into a toll-booth buffer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The truck, carrying landscaping materials and towing a Bobcat front-end loader, crashed into a buffer at the Lantana toll plaza just south of Lake Worth Road about 7:20 a.m., FHP Lt. Pat Santangelo said. The driver, Abundio Martinez, 26, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The company that owns the truck is The Osprey Group of Delray Beach, Santangelo said. The crash broke the truck's front axle and knocked the buffer into another lane. Two of six lanes were shut down until about 9:20 a.m. while officials worked to clear the debris and remove spilled engine fluids from the road, Santangelo said.
