Motorcyclist Killed In San Carlos Park

A man was killed in a today, September 23, just after 10 a.m., when his motorcycle crashed into a car that turned into his path at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Sanibel Road in San Carlos Park.

Sgt. Owen Keen, a Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigator, said that the accident happened when a woman who was southbound on U.S. 41 started to make a left turn onto Sanibel Road on a yellow light.

The man on the motorcycle was traveling north and the light turned green as he approached the intersection, Sgt. Keen said.

The woman in the red Mazda Protege ended up turning in front of the motorcycle, which hit her car, crumpling the right front and smashing the windshield.

The man in the motorcycle was rushed to Gulf Coast Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Keen said.

Charges are pending the completion of the accident investigation, Sgt. Owen Keen said.
