Woman Drives For Help After Severing Leg

March 10, 2006

Sunny Diver, 56, was driving a tractor outfitted with a bush hog, a piece of heavy machinery used to chop down thick bush, in the Punta Gorda area when she was severely injured.

She got out of the tractor and somehow got her leg tangled in the bush hog. The machine ripped her leg off just below the knee, but the woman was able to get back into the tractor and drive to the barn, where she called

9-1-1.

A medical helicopter took Diver to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. According to the incident report, the woman's right leg was completely amputated.

The Emergency Medical Service crew could not re-attach the recovered leg.
