An SUV was traveling south on Florida's Turnpike near Palm Beach when the driver lost control and was hit by another car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Claudio Rivera Angeles, 27, of West Palm Beach was driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner and tried to switch lanes just south of Atlantic Avenue west of Delray Beach, but veered back because of another car. He lost control and the SUV hit the front of a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by Raymunda Bustillo, 41, of Louisiana, state troopers said. The SUV then overturned, coming to a stop in the toll road's grass shoulder, state troopers said. The Camry, carrying two passengers, spun clockwise before stopping facing north in the southbound emergency lane, state troopers said.
Two people were taken to the Delray Medical Center with serious injuries, but their names were not available, Santangelo said. Three were taken to West Boca Medical Center. Passengers in the SUV are from Delray Beach and West Palm Beach. The three passengers in the Camry, from Louisiana and New York, were treated at the scene, Santangelo said. Traffic was not significantly affected by the accident. Charges are pending against Angeles, Santangelo said.
