Hydroplaning Car Crashes Into Big Rig, Killing One And Injuring Teenager

October 20, 2005

A woman was killed and a teenage boy seriously injured when the car they were riding in hydroplaned in heavy rain and skidded off Florida's Turnpike, crashing into a disabled tractor-trailer rig parked along the right shoulder, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Pat Santangelo said.

The crash occurred at 3 p.m. about 10 miles north of Fort Pierce in the southbound lanes. The woman was a passenger in the front seat of a Lexus SUV and the boy was riding in the back seat, Santangelo said. The male driver was not seriously injured. Names were not available at press time. Santangelo said he's not sure whether anyone was wearing seat belts or where the victims were taken.
