Hobe Sound Car Accident Kills One

October 24, 2005

A good samaritan was hit by another vehicle while trying to help out after a sport utility vehicle carrying members of South Fork High School's boys cross-country team flipped onto its side on Bridge Road on Tuesday.

The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. just west of Interstate 95, when the SUV hit a patch of water, lost control, and eventually flipped on its side onto the median.

The person who stopped to help was standing behind the turned-over SUV when another driver came down the road in a pickup and hit the same patch of water and hydroplaned, lost control, and struck him.

The victim's name has not been released.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Martin Memorial Medical Center. There were three passengers in the vehicle.

According to FHP, the cause of both crashes was probably 'driving too fast for conditions.'

The FHP is still investigating the crash.
