The head football coach for Hilliard Middle-Senior High School was arrested Saturday, November 5, for DUI in connection with a September 18 accident that injured six people.
Donald Edward Walker, 37, was arrested on a warrant for DUI in an accident involving bodily injury (a felony), having no car insurance and careless driving.
According to Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Bill Leeper, Mr. Walker turned himself in at the Nassau County Jail about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He was released Sunday on a $5,002 bond.
According to police report, Mr. Walker was driving north on SR 15 when he lost control of his car and struck another vehicle head-on in the southbound lane.
Lab results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement indicated Mr. Walker's blood alcohol content was 0.109. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.
The accident victims were taken to Shands Jacksonville and all were discharged within a few days of the accident.
The driver of the other vehicle - Jimmy E. Peele of Jacksonville - had not been drinking, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The passengers were Kathy Peele, 16, Amanda Peele, 19, Aleah Caudill, 15, and Monica Zimmerly, 18, all of Jacksonville.
There were no passengers in Walker's vehicle.
