Head-on Crash with Semi Kills Teen, Seriously Injures Passenger

August 19, 2005

A 16-year-old driver was killed in Deerfield Beach when his car smashed head-on into an semitrailer. A passenger traveling with the teenager was critically injured.

The teen was driving east on Hillsborough Boulevard near Goolsby Street at about 11:20 p.m. when he lost control of his car, said Liz Calzadilla-Fiallo, spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office. The car careened across the median and slammed into an oncoming UPS truck, she said.

The passenger, described as being between 18 and 25 years of age, was taken to North Broward Medical Center in critical condition. The teenage driver died at the same hospital, Calzadilla-Fiallo said. The men were not identified at press time. The driver of the UPS truck was uninjured. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash.
