Florida Highway Patrol Identifies Pedestrian Killed In Hit-and-run

November 3, 2005

The Florida Highway Patrol on Friday, September 23, identified a pedestrian who died in a hit-and-run accident on U.S. Highway 27 near Highland Lakes Boulevard.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, John Gorman, 45, of Leesburg was killed as he walked north on the shoulder of the southbound lane of U.S. 27.

A southbound tractor-trailer driven by Craig Cronan, 47, of Groveland, hit Gorman about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, September 22, but did not stop to help.

More than three hours later, Craig Cronan went to the Leesburg Police Department to say he had been driving the rig, authorities said.

No charges had been filed by Friday, but the investigation is ongoing, according to the authority.
