An on-duty police officer driving a marked car was cited for careless driving Wednesday evening, November 2, after he struck two pedestrians attempting to cross the street.
Daytona Beach police said that Darryl Smith, 44, and Barbra Belcher, 56, both of Daytona Beach, was injured in the accident, but not seriously.
Darryl Smith suffered minor injury and was treated at the spot.
Barbra Belcher was transported to the hospital for cuts to her foot and forehead.
According to the police report, the accident occurred at about 6:40 p.m. when Officer Joseph Snowden, 32, was attempting to turn left onto South Wild Olive Street from East International Speedway Boulevard.
Officer Snowden, who has been with the Daytona Beach Police Department for seven years, has not been involved in any other on-duty crashes.
Daytona Beach police will conduct an administrative investigation, police said, but according to the department policy, the Florida Highway Patrol will handle the formal crash investigation.
