Car Stalls On I-95, Driver Killed In Ensuing Auto Collision

October 21, 2005

A woman died when her car stopped in the middle of Interstate 95 and was rear-ended by a van, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Officials did not identify the woman, who had been driving south on I-95 near Hallandale Beach Boulevard just after midnight. For an unknown reason, the woman's car stopped in an inside left lane on the interstate, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Bill Ferrell.

Before the accident, the Highway Patrol had cruisers responding to reports of a car stranded in the roadway, and the woman was on her cell phone trying to get help. The driver of the van also was hurt, but his injuries were not life threatening. FHP advises motorists who have trouble to get their stopped vehicles to the side of the road, out of the lanes of travel.
