August 21, 2005: A 22-year-old Sunrise man died when his car was in a collision with a car that crossed into oncoming traffic on Interstate 595 in Davie.
Jorge A. Perez was driving west on Interstate 595 about 11:30 p.m. when the other car, driven by an 18-year-old woman, careened over the eastbound lanes, said Lt. William Ferrell, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
The two collided head-on near Flamingo Road, sending the woman's car into four other vehicles, Ferrell said. Perez died instantly. Rescuers rushed the other driver and a teenage passenger from her car to Broward General Medical Center, Ferrell said. The driver had serious injuries and the passenger minor injuries. Ferrell said that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
