Auto Crash Kills One, Injures 11

October 24, 2005

A 14-year old girl was the only one killed in a two vehicle accident Wednesday morning that also left four of her relatives injured while they were on their way to school.

Kantrice J. Davis, of 530 Lake George Road, Lake Alfred, was riding in a 1999 Chevy Cavalier driven by her sister, Jennifer Davis, when the accident occurred.

At 6:40 a.m., Jennifer Davis was headed west on U.S. 92 when she took a left turn onto Dairy Road into the path of a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Hermelo Cortez Rodriquez, 22, of 43 Pinewood Lane in Winter Haven, said the Auburndale Police Chief.

The car also had other passengers in the car including the girls' sister, Raquel, 15; brother, Roger, 13; and their cousin Keevy Leonard, 14; of Auburndale.

Jennifer, Raquel and Keevy were rushed to Winter Haven Hospital, where they received treatment for their injuries.

Roger is still listed in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. All the victims are students at Auburndale High School.

Rodriquez was on his way to work in Kissimmee. Rodriguez suffered minor injuries, as did all six of his passengers.

The passengers have been identified as Hipolito Gomez, 52, of Auburndale; Angel Velasquez, 30, of Auburndale; Diego Ivan Martin, 24, of Auburndale; Oscar R. Velasquez, 19, of Auburndale; Jose Hernadez, 20, of Auburndale; and Marco A. Solis, 20, of Auburndale.

The investigation into the crash is still underway.

Police are saying that it is still too early to determine if charges will be filed.
